The Frankfort Township Road District is responsible for many services in the township, ranging from bike path construction, to curb and sidewalk repair and even the mowing of parkways. The Road District clears and maintains 65 miles of roads in unincorporated areas, as well as providing branch and leaf pickup programs for unincorporated residents.
The Frankfort Township Assessor’s office oversees property assessments and regularly provides information to help veterans, the disabled and senior citizens with tax abatements to which they may be entitled. Visit the Assessor’s Office website at www.frankfortassessor.com for more information regarding what they are responsible for and what they can do for you.
Transportation services in and around Frankfort Township are provided for our residents who are unable to drive themselves or for those wishing to save a little gas and leave their car at home. As well as our PACE bus service, we also provide medical vans for easy health care visits. Special “day trips” to grocery stores and large shopping malls are now being planned on a regular basis.
Frankfort Township Animal Control promotes the safety, rescue and adoption of animals. They are also available for assisting in the recovery of lost pets. For more information call 815-469-4907.
The Food Pantry in Frankfort Township is possible because of the generosity and time donated by Township citizens, the business community as well as local churches and service organizations. Donations of non-perishable food items or food cards from local stores are greatly appreciated. Call 815-469-4907 for more information, to donate or to volunteer.
Frankfort Township is pleased to provide our senior citizens with unique activities at the town hall including a “gentle exercise” program, Line Dance class, crafts, bingo and cards. Inexpensive lunch and Meals on Wheels are also offered in conjunction with Will County Senior Services.
On the township grounds, the Autumn Valley apartment complex gives senior citizens secure and comfortable residences at a very reasonable cost. Seniors aged 60 and older are eligible for one of the 24 apartments, and we will begin looking into additional buildings next summer. The Autumn Valley apartments are funded by rental fees, and no tax dollars are used to support them.
Check out the calendar for updates on activities.
In many ways, township government is true local government, providing the kinds of services and programs that residents cannot get from villages, cities or counties. In Frankfort Township, it happens to be local government with a personal touch. Residents are always welcome at board meetings, which are the least formal of all area governments. Supervisor Jim Moustis and other officials are happy to talk with you and answer any questions or concerns that you may have.
Meetings are held on the second and fourth Mondays of the month beginning at 7 p.m. at the Township Hall, 11000 West Lincoln Highway.
All meetings are open to the public.
Frankfort Township officials dedicated the new Township Center at 11000 W. Lincoln Highway on Friday, December 12 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The building is now open and provides us much-needed office space and a new base for the Lincoln-Way Communications Center, the Food Pantry and the Frankfort Township Assessor’s office. The $5 million building was designed with staff efficiency and environmental awareness in mind. Best of all, it was built without an increase in residents’ taxes.
Township Collector
Eric Swanson is the elected Frankfort Township Collector. Swanson is an attorney with offices in Joliet and a former assistant state's attorney. Swanson is a graduate of Valparaiso Unviersity School of Law and has lived in Frankfort Township since 1996.
What We Have Planned
With the additional office space, we plan to expand some of our services, including those we offer for our senior citizens. We want to look into some additional health care programs, such as immunization, dental care, pharmacy and basic health issues. If there are more serious health problems that we can’t help with, we will connect you with people who can.
